Trump Considers Sending Second Aircraft Carrier Strike Batch to Iran
Trump told Axios, “We have an armada that is heading there and another one might be going. Either we will make a deal or we will have to do something very tough like last time,” referencing June airstrikes on Iran’s Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear sites. He argued that Iran is now negotiating more seriously because its leaders no longer doubt his willingness to use force, claiming they had previously “overplayed their hand.”
The US seeks a deal not only on Iran’s nuclear program but also on ballistic missile capabilities. Tehran, however, has publicly rejected negotiations beyond nuclear issues, insisting on its sovereign right to enrich uranium. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi emphasized that enrichment is a matter of national sovereignty and that Iran will clarify the peaceful nature of its nuclear activities but will not accept “zero enrichment” demands, even under threat of military action.
Iran has similarly rejected discussions on its missile program, describing it as purely defensive, signaling potential friction in upcoming talks despite escalating US pressure.
This development highlights the dual-track US approach of combining diplomacy with a show of military force to influence Iran’s negotiating stance.
